Dear President Trump

Don’t be the Emperor. Be the child who announces his nakedness.

Don’t be the King. Be his fool, who speaks the truth about him.

You are a showman. You are a canny negotiator. You are accustomed to playing the fool. Play him.

Think of it as a crushing, maximal, appalling opening position. Your adversaries don’t know the first thing about negotiating. They won’t respond with a counteroffer. They’ll just convulse on the floor, bite their tongues, weep, gibber, and soil themselves.

So, why not go for the whole enchilada?

Never have Americans been so desperate as now to know that he who leads them knows and speaks the truth. Speak it now, on every score, without a jot of reserve. The chattering class, who want desperately to preserve their illusions and their sinecures, will hate you for it. But they already hate you, as much as is humanly possible. What then have you to lose?

Upend it all. Your people will love you for it, and history will smile upon you, as a simple honest realist.

Never since Caligula has the Establishment Narrative been so completely divorced from reality. Never therefore has it been so wonderfully poised for a catastrophic fall, and a wonderfully refreshing and salubrious, a rejuvenating and encouraging recovery. So let Humpty Dumpty fall. Give him a little push.

He’s a bad egg.

Never have Americans been so desperate as now to confront the truth, and to deal with it honestly. If you do not now step up and speak the truth, ruthlessly, simply, charitably, gently, implacably – then will your countrymen be yet more desperate for it tomorrow, and yet more the next day, and even more the next. When then the truth inevitably makes itself known, as inevitably it must, their vengeance will be terrible, the toll horrific.

Make the truth known now, and act upon it, and urge us all to act, while there is still a chance that the ensuing adjustment may be peaceable, and orderly, so as to preserve our Union.

Now is the time. As usual, among us mere men.

  3. I disagree. The enormities of American governance easily beat the pants off of that small-time two-bit evil-doer Caligula.

  4. Never have Americans been so desperate as now to know that he who leads them knows and speaks the truth. Speak it now, on every score, without a jot of reserve.

Yeah, good luck with that. Trump is about the the farthest you can get from truth-telling.

This saddens me. Despite our dramatic philosophical differences in other posts, I respect that you have been trying to articulate the truth as you see it. But to align yourself with Trump basically undoes all that.

    • Well, a.morphous, we can’t possibly all be as all-knowing and perfect as you are. To borrow the wisdom of the Priest from Rudy, in all of our years in search for truth we have come to two immutable conclusions: there is an a.morphous, and we ain’t him.

    • A.morphous: Perhaps it will make you feel better to learn that I am not aligning myself with Trump. I’m a traditional reactionary, remember? He’s a liberal.

But at least he is a nationalist, and a patriot, and a pragmatist, and a realist. And he is not delusional. He does not inhabit the dream world of the Left.

Trump was not hired for his philosophical chops or his moral purity. He was hired as a wrecker.

He’s a very intelligent man, as may be seen from his spectacular success in so many disparate fields. But even were he not, a foolish child is competent to notice and announce that the Emperor is naked.

And that’s what we need right now.

      • a.morphous doesn’t understand that; he sees Trump (as though in a supernatural vision) as an extreme right-winger who hasn’t a liberal bone in his body (‘so he feigns a respect for LGBTQrstuvwxy&z equality – so what?!’). Trying to explain oneself to someone as all-knowing as a.morphous obviously is, is an exercise in futility.

      • But at least he is a nationalist, and a patriot, and a pragmatist, and a realist. And he is not delusional. He does not inhabit the dream world of the Left.

He’s an imbecile and a con artist and if not delusional, then a shameless liar. The imbecility seems recent, probably the result of a degenerative condition — you can watch videos of him from 10-15 years ago where he’s able to form coherent sentences. But that doesn’t change what he is now.

Trump was not hired for his philosophical chops or his moral purity. He was hired as a wrecker.

Odd for a devotee of divine order to be so enthralled by a wrecker. Hope you enjoy the wreckage you and your hero (that you are not aligned with) will leave of things. Too bad the rest of us have to live in it and try to mitigate the damage.

Ah well, I will give you credit for honesty. If your goal is wrecking the world that I and my friends and family inhabit, then so be it, we’ll just have to fight it out, there are no common interests and no possibility of real dialogue.

      • I don’t understand why you take me to be aligned with Trump, let alone enthralled with him. You’ve been reading here for a long time (thanks!). Haven’t you seen yet how jaundiced is the eye we cast upon quotidian politics, and a fortiori politicians, of the latter-day West? Haven’t you yet noticed our political … *orthogony*?

The edifice the Leftist Establishment has been building for the last sixty years or so in the West is a type of Babel. It is manifestly evil. It is a latter day Carthage, and its holocausts on the altars of Moloch dwarf hers. It wants wrecking, as a matter of divine justice, so as to restore some modicum of divine order. It is teetering even now, and will soon fall whether or not it suffers any human push from such as Trump.

If you can’t see the evil of Babel, that does not mean you are a man of ill will, an evil man; not, at least, in your intentions. I am sure you intend well. It means only that you are still caught in the web, and honestly believe (in spite of the assault of his nakedness upon your senses) that the Emperor is clothed in wonderfully subtle fabrics.

Trump seems ready to begin calling out that the Emperor is naked, and that is a violation of all the proprieties you hold so dear. He is being rude. You are outraged.

But dude: the Emperor really is naked. If everyone just woke up to the fact that the Narrative is completely out to lunch, then we could all simply drop it and get back to living life prudently in the world as it is. Then might we with relatively little trouble and turmoil avoid a general apocalypse total in its devastation of everything in our civilization that such as both you and we hold dear. Otherwise, not.

      • Trump has already chickened out. I thought there was a chance he would tell the CIA to go to hell, but he appears require a cheering section to tell any “unpopular” truths. The American people are too stupid to know when they are being played (this russian nonsense is not exactly subtle) so we get fewer and more popular unpopular truths.

      • Josh:

I sometimes feel the same way, but then he surprises me out of the blue.

The sad thing about his newfound reticence is that if he started telling the truth about everything, almost everyone outside the nomenklatura would instantly recognize it as such, and rather rejoice at the intense relief of facing up to things as they really are, however dire the situation might be. Re terrorism, for example, everyone but the utterly deluded knows in his heart that Islam itself is the root of the problem. We don’t want to confront the fact because we all know that the fact itself is a dagger at the heart of religious freedom, and thus of the whole Enlightenment project. That’s pretty terrifying, and no one wants to go there. But if we just go ahead and confront the fact, we’ll feel better. Only then might we conceivably do anything about the problem that is really apposite thereto.

Consider then what would happen if Trump were to start telling the ugly truth, all at once, about *everything* that the nomenklatura and their Narrative so desperately want to avoid noticing. Liberal heads would explode so completely that their reactions to any part of the truth would be dissipated. No one of the truths would suffer the focused onslaught of the media, because there would simply be too many of them. The news cycle, already foreshortened to about 12 hours, would shrink down to a few minutes. The propaganda machine would not have time to muster a coherent Narrative counterattack to more than a couple of the truths coming at them like 30 mm rounds from a Warthog.

That would be fun to watch.

Thus sayeth he who has said numerous times here at the Orthosphere that a primary goal in life is to do his part to finally destroy the last remaining vestiges of the world we traditionalists and our friends and families inhabit. But of course his kind of wrecking is perfectly justifiable and warranted since the order his ideological brethren have already all but utterly ruined is altogether bad according to their lights.

And the light shown in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.

He is definitely right about one thing – there is no point to trying to dialogue with him and his ilk; all that is left to do at this point is to prepare for the war ahead of us. The only reason this hasn’t already happened is because the Almighty is patient and long suffering, and therefore the iniquity of the Weimericans is not yet full.

      • The imbecility seems recent, probably the result of a degenerative condition …

Perhaps. Certainly not outside the realm of possibilities. It doesn’t matter in any case because we have it on good authority (see Psalms 2 for example) – authority you deny – that ultimately we are not in control of events in any case.

When the heathen rage and imagine a vain thing, and ceaselessly and tirelessly work to break our bands asunder and cast away our cords from among themselves (see your own comboxes), they have indeed set themselves at war with the Most High; and as He sits in the heavens and laughs and holds them in derision He controls world events, reserving evil doers for the day of evil.

As the saying goes, there are really only two kinds of people in the world when you boil it all down:

The Kristors – who pray to the Lord “thy will be done”; and the a.morphouses – to whom the Lord says “thy will be done.”

If Trump is really delusional due to some degenerative affliction lately come upon him, that such a man holds the highest office of power in the world at this very moment in history is nothing short of Divine justice. It isn’t as though we haven’t collectively been asking for it (indeed begging for it – demanding it even) for a long long time.

Take all of that as belief in a cosmic flying spaghetti monster and angry old man who arbitrarily metes out punishments if you will; no skin off my nose. It simply is reality that you’ll have to learn the hard way.

Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

      • Let me state this more simply…

Orthosphereans pull for Trump because he is easily the LEAST anti-white Supremacist national figure on the scene and in the field. He is CLEARLY the most “supremacist”-minded President to hold the office of the Presidency since Reagan. And like a broken clock, he seems to be aligned with the interests of white Supremacy at some very critical junctures.

Trump may be an imbecile and con artist…

But he is no out-of-the closet “white” self-annihilator…

And that makes the hatred for him white hot.

    • a.morphous:

if you think he’s an imbecile you have not been paying attention. just because he tailors his talks to his audience, rather than speak in lofty, meaningless, academic terms, does not mean he’s stupid.

Trump singlehandedly outsmarted the entire political establishment, as well as the media. Maybe he knows something they don’t…

  5. Those Nazis who were hung were not hung because their ideology was found invalid, they were hung for their crimes. If Trump is to go whole hog — and I agree that he should for the reasons you cite — he should call for both an end to the regime of elective abortion as well as a bringing to justice those responsible for it. Go for it!

The evils of the political class are their crimes. Calling for justice is the direct — perhaps the only — path back to sanity.

  6. But what shall provide the impetus for this “speaking the truth”, or pushing Humpty over the wall?

It should have happened the day after the shocking Fourth Circuit decision upholding the stay on his Travel Order. He should have announced that he’s an equal enforcer of the Constitution, the Order is constitutional, and he’s going to enforce it irrespective of the Court’s decision (or the Supreme Court’s forthcoming decision) under his power as Commander in Chief and his obligation to protect the American people. Imagine the paroxysms of recrimination unleashed by the political elites to such an announcement.

At which point the only remedy is to remove him from office. Yes, dare Congress to remove him from office for enforcing a law that is ostensibly constitutional. There is precedent with Jackson’s ignoring the Cherokee decision and Lincoln’s actions during the Civil War.

I keep waiting for this moment to happen, but regrettably I don’t think Trump is up to it.

    • Things are not yet come to that pass. But they might. Martial law and suspension of habeas corpus are things that are done. Ditto for concentration camps for enemy populations. These have happened before, and can happen again. By one side or another …

    • Leftism is like libertarianism in the sense that a little bit of it (a very little bit!) goes a long, long way.

Most of us can find it within ourselves to sort of “go along” with a certain small measure of liberal stupidity, but of course the danger always lies in the fact that a seed contains all the information necessary to produce its kind of fruit at length, thus the seed of liberalism will ultimately blossom and produce the fruits we see today *if* due diligence is not done to make sure it isn’t tended and watered and allowed to take root, and so forth.

Inasmuch as it is in their power and capacity to do so, the generation chosen to rebuild on the ash heap would do well to prevent the seeds of liberalism from being planted in good soil in the first place. Or so I tend to think.

      • Original Sin has often been explained through the ages as analogous to an infection. Once you get the bug, it’s just in you, like malaria. And every now and then it floresces.

So a little bit of leftism begins the slide down the slippery slope to perfect leftism. With a tip of the hat to Thordaddy, perfect leftism is the apotheosis of radical autonomy, and thus (eventually) of self-annihilation.

Most of us are leftish here and there, and those of us on the Right – including classical liberals – are at least struggling to extricate ourselves from it.

        Another analogy is to addiction.

Interesting then that ingesting the red pill on any one topic often leads a liberal to a general metanoia, and eventual arrival at full flown reaction. The same thing happens with conversion to rigorous traditional religious orthodoxy of almost any sort. One sheds the old, sick life, as it were the disused skin of a snake.

Both the upward and the downward motions register in the mind as dramatic increases in freedom and power, aye and joy even.

  7. Never have Americans been so desperate as now to confront the truth, and to deal with it honestly.

    And:

[I]f [Trump] started telling the truth about everything, almost everyone outside the nomenklatura would instantly recognize it as such, and rather rejoice at the intense relief of facing up to things as they really are, however dire the situation might be.

I’m not so sanguine. If Trump were to start speaking the truth on the sexual revolution – and not just against sodomy, but against the whole enchilada (e.g., contraception, shacking up, remarriage, IVF) – for example, I suspect a great swath of Americans who supported him would not be so eager to confront this and deal with it honestly.

Likewise more generally, if Trump were to speak the truth about freedom – that the freedom of religion and the right to bear arms are bunkum, for example – and were seriously to challenge our capitalist economic order, I’m not so sure that Americans would be desperate to deal with this honestly. The thought of being deprived of their iToys and Netflix would be an impossible burden.

In other words, Americans would rejoice selectively at Trump telling the truth: that is, only regarding truths that don’t require direct personal sacrifice of them (e.g., the terrorism example you gave).

If all it took for Americans instantly to recognize the truth was for Trump to start telling it, they would have already recognized it. The reality is that a great many Americans – including the more ostensibly conservative, middle American types – like liberalism.
